Better than the more expensive ones, anyway.  Perhaps saying they work "well" 
is being a bit generous.  They do work.  :)

They're basically the same quality I had on my Huffy bike when I was a kid.  
Only trouble I had with those was not replacing the pads often enough.  :)
 
I haven't had time to try out the high-tech brakes at the bike shop yet.
