Replying to a message of mark lewis to Crystal Walters: KW>> it's time to call some BBSes while there are still dialups left! CW>> There are still dialups left?? _> ml> absolutely! it is how fidonet stays connected when the internet get ml> broken... landlines are also still in use in many places because it ml> doesn't take much for a storm to knock out cell towers and internet ml> comms but POTS lines just keep going and going and going... not to ml> mention that copper is much easier to splice back together than fiber ml> ;) In tis area the phone cables are buried. In my walking the dogs around the block (a 4 mile trip) I discovered that the county had exposed - and broken - a many-pair phone cable, Qwest had apparently relocated the line and just left the old cable in place. I have a couple of hundred feet of it (g). --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 11/200 331 14/400 34/999 123/500 128/2 187 222/2 230/150 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/1 306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 393/68 396/45 633/104 260 267 280 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 SEEN-BY: 2320/105 5030/1256 @PATH: 0/0 116/901 3634/12 123/500 261/38 633/260 267 |
