In tis area the phone cables are buried.  In my walking the dogs around the block
(a 4 mile trip) I discovered that the county had exposed - and broken - a many-pair
phone cable, Qwest had apparently relocated the line and just left the old
cable in place.
I have a couple of hundred feet of it (g).
