Five or six years ago I was given an NEC PC-8201A (very similar machine - as
you've probably read by now, Kyocera was the OEM of the Model 100 and several
other nearly identical machines.) I wouldn't want to have to use it day to
day, but much like you I find the machine very interesting either because or
in spite of its age, and I'm only a few years older than it.

An easy enough cable / adapter to build. I put one together out of a DIN
connector (can't remember how many pins it was) and a phone jack about a year
ago. I happen to have the Tandy Acoustic Coupler 2 that works with the Model
100 / 102 and I think 200, and my adapter was part of a project to patch that
coupler to other modems. If I recall correctly, there was a battery in there
somewhere, too . . . I can't remember what became of that project.

Best of luck getting that going and then connecting to something at 300bps.
Whether that modem will be able to negotiate a connection with one of its
"modern" counterparts (are there modern modems?) I couldn't say for sure.
