28 May 97 09:38, Hey Rocky! Jack Schwendener pulled 396 outta his hat!:
JS>
RW> JS>> It would be nice to slide that J-2 into a nice '49 Olds coupe
RW> JS>> ....
JS>
RW>> When I was a senior in high school, I had a 49 Olds business coupe.
RW>> That was the smallest sedan body that GM made. The back seat was
RW>> nothing more than an ornament. Anyway, after graduation, I put a 53
RW>> engine and 37 La Salle tranny in it.
JS>
JS> So you took out that weenie 303 inch motor and dropped in the "big"
JS> 324 incher .... :-) The business coupe was my favorite model ....
Uh, no! It was a 76, not an 88...:) Originally it had a flat head six
cylinder, 3 on the column...went straight to the 324 from there..
JS> Yup, the Olds coupe was pretty fast for it's time. In the 60's you
JS> just dropped in a 394 and they were still fast (until the rat motor
JS> started getting available ..... ) A guy I knew had a '50 coupe with a
JS> 394 and a Jimmy 4-71 blower, and a stock hood .... ! ;-) That car
JS> embarassed a lot of people .... Today I'd like to drop in a 455 and a
JS> turbo 400, just for a cruiser ....
That'd be the cat's meow...wonder how high that 455 would lift the rear end
under power?
