=> Some UPs, like my back-ups 400, warn vs using

=> Q: any fish equiptment use such?
I expect that reference is to any transformer based power supply
(computers don't use transformers, just electronic chip based
regulators).
If that is such, then flourecent light ballasts, most filter pumps and
vibrator style air pumps.
Just as a side note, given the cost verses low output of UPS, why not
grab a suitable wattage inverter (150 watts will run lights and air/water
pumps and still take on smaller 50w heaters). 150's can often be had for
100 bucks or less, rigged to a small trickle charger, a 120v relay and a
deep cycle RV style battery would give you several hours! (assuming heat
was required occasionally and no lighting was backed up)
If you need to know the simply wiring for the relay, let me know. This
setup on the other hand should _not_ be used as a Comp UPS due to
probable spikes and surges during off-on phases..
