Hi Tim,
Try a small pair of nail clippers. You can find very small ones for
cutting human baby nails in the baby isle at the grocery or
deparment store. Just look at the nails. It is easier if the nails
are whitish or clear-ish... Sometimes birds nails are black or
dark grey. These are harder to see through and to tell just how
long the cuticle is inside the nail. If you can see, then just
clip the tip off the nail. If not take tiny nips. Don't panic if
you do draw blood. One of one of our bird vets girls gave me a
trade secret. Get a bar of white soap like Ivory or such, and if
the nail bleeds, rake the nail along the edge of the bar of soap.
This packs the "tube" of the nail so that bleeding usually stops
quickly. It is safe. I have found it to work better than qwick
stop for toenail wounds from clipping.
