Roman coins. The name appears in the King James Bible in a few
places.
The abbreviation "d" was used to designate the penny in the old
British, Australian and New Zealand currencies.
L.s.d, using a curly "L" with a cross stroke, represented libra
(pound), shilling = 1/20th of a pound, and denarius (penny) =
1/12 of a shilling.
The libra also appears in the abbreviation "lb" for pound weight.
