We watched a tornado tear up parts of Conway, AR, back in 1965, on a
Saturday afternoon, when I was in the 3rd grade. We had a good vantage
point on a hill, it was probably not more than 2 miles away. The Tastee
Freeze where we had eaten lunch a half hour earlier was flattened, as was a
school bus manufacturing plant and a fuel tank farm.

We were visiting the construction site of our new house, when my dad called
me to the window and said "Look!" I looked, and there was a big
white tornado on the ground, about half way across the small town, and it
looked like it was headed straight for us. I said "Shit!" and
didn't get in trouble for it... We ran, until it became clear that it had
turned south, away from us, then stood and watched, transfixed, until it
dissipated.
