Actually Krispy Kreme was a relative newcomer to SoCal. The first one 
opened in San Diego in Claremont Mesa around 2000. It was a novelty but 
wore off quickly. 

Burger joints in that part of the world weren't all that good either. You 
were better off going to a Red Robin for a burger than In & Out though.
