I do not follow all this 800 meg stuff a lot, but I thought the law
said " difficult", not "impossible". I guess any of those radios
could be made to receive 800 mHz, given enuff thought and energy
applied to the task. Does that mean if anyone reports that a radio
can be made to receive 800 mHz the FCC will cease sale of those radios
. I have not had to mod a radio for years (usually for MARS) as
most radios come with it already figured out, but as I recall it
was simply and L/C ratio change in the oscillator for most I did
(Heath, Hallicrafters, Hammarlund and E F Johnson). The Collins
were only xtal changes and ICOMs diode removal. GE and Motorola
were cap changes on the coils. Most today are wide-band already.
MIght have to get one of these and put my mind to 800 mHz. Seems
easiest would be a converter and use receiver for an IF either
