I would have to disagree -- I believe I've had the worst chicken fried steak
ever.
In 1986 I was on the road with a rock band running sound and lights for
them, and in Wyoming I was surprised to find CFS on the menu. So, being
young and inexperienced I ordered it.
It was a chopped steak (I wouldn't dare label it as a sirloin chopped steak)
battered and deep fried, and served with brown gravy. The word "heinous"
starts to border on the right word for the experience, though in the ensuing
over two and a half decades I still haven't been able to find the perfect
word to express the experience.
The lesson: Don't order southern cuisine items outside the south unless
you're willing to risk a culinary disaster.
