subject: Wild Indent in 6.0

Using wp 6.0c DOS (12/5/94)
Have a 2-column document in which I used
Indent (F4) at point X:
        texttexttexttexttexttext
        texttexttexttexttexttext
                Xyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
                 yyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
                 yyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Everything is normal text, not solid block as
shown.
After working elsewhere in the document, I come
back to the above and find this:
        texttexttexttexttexttext
        texttexttexttexttexttext
                             Xyy
                              yy
                              yy
                              yy
                              yy
                              yy
                              yy
                               y
              (Etc. until all "y's"
               are strung out vertically)
Sometimes the vertical string is only one character wide;
other times, two or three.
If I delete the indent code and replace it immediately,
the format reverts to proper shape. However, it will
pop out again later while I am messing with something
elsewhere.
If I replace the indent with a tab, and put a tab on
each "y" line, it holds its shape just fine.
Any hints to what's wrong?
