Read it again.  He had indeed been speaking to Pharisees, but in verse
45, it became clear to one of the lawyers among them that the things He
was saying was a reproach to them (lawyers) as well, and he spoke out
in objection.  Verses 46 thru 52 are directed specifically at the
lawyers in response, a scathing condemnation of them all.

Pretty much.
First, ask yourself why it is anybody ever has need of a lawyer in the
first place.  If you look at it closely and honestly, you'll find the
only reason they are needed is because they and ex-lawyers (judges)
themselves have made it necessary by obfuscating and distorting the
laws, and by setting up special rules and procedures only they are privy
to, law itself made subservient to said rules and procedures.  Any
literate person can read the fundamental law of the land, the
Constitution, and understand what it says - only lawyers and judges can
twist and pervert it to the extent we see today where rights are even
found residing in "penumbras".
That's only just the beginning.  Added to that are myriad others like
how any moral and ethical being could uphold and/or argue in behalf of
immoral laws.  The entire list of moral and ethical shortcomings of
lawyers as a group is absolutely awesome.
