BL> For the life of me, I can't understand how this works. But, I
BL> suppose, as long as it does work understanding isn't absolutly
BL> necessary.
Me, neither.
DH>Another project I am starting on is testing Micro Current on
DH>bone-knitting.
BL> Wow! You're getting way over my head now!
There must be a few people here who are looking at joint
replacements in the next little while because of degeneration or
arthritis.
There are a small percentage of people, and a much bigger percentage
of older people, whose bones do not knit together after they have been
fractured or cut [as in surgical joint replacements], or the bones will
not heal around pins or plates used to stabilize the two ends of the
bones involved.
In the early '80s, the Brits studied micro-current electricity in
stimulating the bone cells to grow and claimed some success. Then the
whole deal just kind of faded out.
Then in the last decade, TENS had successfully been marketed as the
solution to persistent pain [chronic pain implies a mental component to
the perception of pain... geriatric psychiatry]. But many people hate
the coarse vibrations of TENS.
Microcurrent then came back into the picture through chiropractors.
It is said to relieve pain, muscle spasms, make skin young-looking
[cell-renewal], reduce weight, increase immunity, etc., etc., etc.
I find that it provides very rapid and sustained relief to muscle
spasms, tissue inflammation [bursitis], and other muscular pains, and
not very effective on arthritic weather-reporting [ie pressure changes
within the joints]. And you cannot feel any of the vibrations at all.
At high settings, it makes the skin itch a little, or on sensitive areas
such as the neck, it may sting like tiny ant bites.
So I am approaching a company to see about getting the free use of a
few machines for our geriatric hip patients, to see if they would heal
faster and mobilize earlier than those who have traditional care.
I do enjoy reading your
BL> posts about these things, so please keep it up. I figure we absorb
BL> some of everything we read, so maybe eventually I'll learn something.
BL> :)
I think some of the things happening may be of general interest to
the users of this echo, especially things regarding pain relief, bones
and nerves. I will continue to post new "stuff". Hope everyone finds
some items interesting.
