Very important wording.....does not say WILL. Just like General Motors
says to use only GM parts...does not mean that others won't work.
DL> In particular, FERRORESONANT type regulating transformers are not
DL> recommended. If in doubt, please consult the equiptment
Standard text, warranty and product liability. Still no proof
it won't work.
DL> That IS the danger I meant by using a Computer UPS

EXACTLY!!!
DL> I had a old 200 watt Ups long ago, in a blackout I put a lamp on

AHA! Old things can fail....
DL> UPS made for computers are made to run equiptment made for
DL> computers, not safe to try non computer stuff unless SURE it can
 DL> run them ^^^^^
Very true...but, again, there are SOME UPS that will run anything you
want to plug into them, within power output ratings. Another thing to
consider, you gets what you pays for (hopefully). If someone thinks
they can plug their tank into a $49 UPS, they will see a lot of smoke.
The UPS systems we repair here are run on a RESISTIVE load of 90 percent
of rated output for one full hour without overheating or breakdown before
they are sent back to the owner. A DECENT UPS, correctly set up, and
vented, should be able to run at this load without any time limit,
limited only by the capacity of its batteries.
Also, if I remember correctly, this whole thread started about
"wanting to run an air pump"... not complete systems. I don't
believe it would be totally necessary to run the lights during
a power loss...only the filter to keep things alive. My tank (55 gal)
is happily running on a Surpreme Aquaking (300 gph) and draws
.52 amps.
^
This has all been very interesting, but I will leave any replies to
others...I really came here to discuss fish, not to rave on about
what I have to do for pay all day long.... :-))
