From: John Beckett "Geo." wrote in message news:: > Geo. (I hope I can remember how to use edlin) I have a story about edlin. It was a few years ago now, but even in 1996 (or whenever it was), seeing edlin was a rarity. Anyway, I was asked to write a simple DOS program that output text messages on some wall panel for a bank. There was some sort of glitch with the person who was supposed to put the program on the bank's computer, so I was asked to go and do it. Well, I managed to find a suit. And I managed to find level 35 in their fabulous city office building. And they took me to the PC. A real IBM PC! No expense spared. The damn thing had NOTHING on it except PC-DOS and edlin. I had to edit autoexec.bat using edlin. It just never occurred to me that the existing computer they told me I would be using wouldn't even have Edit (and political factors meant I had to use just that PC). Edlin - just like riding a bicycle.
