I'm buying T7400s for my developers with 24 GB RAM for $3500, but that also
includes 2 TB of disk. Call it about 2 grand for the bare system. 48 GB RAM is
$2100, bringing the total to $8300. Definitely not a laptop, though - the
T7400/T7500 weighs about 70 POUNDS.

I was happy to find the T7400's little brother, a T3400, for $199. 8 GB of RAM
is more than enough for me.
