I don't think that infighting was the problem. Instead, blame it on very
high telephone costs -- in the mid 90's I established that picking up my
feed from a node in British Columbia was prohibitively expensive and when I
looked for alternatives, I found a reliable feed in Oregon.
I considered Alaska but calling Alaska would have been more expensive than
calling B. C. And oven Oregon was so expensive that I breathed a sigh of
relief when I discovered FNOS and started picking up my Fidonet feed over
the Internet.
