| subject: | Trashed Treasure... 1. |
On or about: 05-23-08 23:56, Ardith Hinton did engage James Bradley regarding, but not limited to: Trash or Treasure... 1. AH> I just had to do a double-take.... :-)) JB> I'm 45, BTW. AH> That's more or less what I thought. Glad you AH> confirmed it, though... I wondered afterwards if I should AH> have said something. :-) ...And risk have him slap you in the face, had he known the insinuation? Dem's big kahoonas, Mrs. Hinton! AH> No problem AFAIC. The Canadian mosaic, eh? You don't seem AH> to object to my being >95% British, and I've never met a I can look past many things. O-8* AH> Ukrainian I didn't like.... ;-) You haven't seen the drinkers I have. Wine and Roses is a nice story, in the beginning. JB> when I'm being a brat. ;-) AH> I thought so... my mother told me about how her AH> little brother pushed her head first into a rain barrel & AH> whatnot! As a child I often wished I had a little brother. AH> Nowadays I'm quite content to borrow other people's.... :- AH> ))) A wise path. AH> [re serger] AH> Yes. When I was growing up my parents always had a AH> cardboard box set aside for items to be donated to the church rummage AH> sale, so it's second nature to me to think "Who else might AH> be able to use this?" Like you, I'm thinking of who in AH> particular as well. If you enjoy fixing things but don't AH> have the space for them all it makes sense to give them AH> away once they're fixed.... :-) Sometimes yes: Sometimes no. I just demoted an old studio-grade TV monitor. I placed it in the back ally, but wrote on it, "Weak horiz. synch?" I noticed some movement in the things around it, and it was not square to the fence any more. It was not worth the troubleshooting for me, and the next user wasn't interested enough, so off to the recyclers it went. If it was in A1 condition, I would have wrote that on it, and left it in the same ally. I recall us having one garage sale before a move. Maybe a blitz or two were carted off to a church market, but I have no recollection of a corner in the garage devoted to stuff on its way out. AH> IIRC I've never paid list price for towels & bedding. So AH> they need a bit of work? If you have the skills & the time & the AH> equipment to do the work, you can save a lot of money. I ...Nothing a serger wouldn' fix. (-: AH> found one of Nora's favourite sweat shirts in a charity AH> resale shop. The hand-stitched applique was an artistic AH> masterpiece... yet the shirt was marked down to fifty cents AH> because it had a minute bit of egg yolk stuck to it. Or AH> maybe that's the one which was marked down because it had a AH> small stain on a white background in an inconspicuous AH> location. With both of these I was able to remedy the AH> problem in five minutes or less, anyway.... :-) My approach is, it's less disheartening when I put my first ding in a piece. Just today, I showed off my new/old briefcase, then I noticed witness marks to how often it had been closed. When it returned home, I placed it on the ground too close to the sliding door of the van. "What the??? I have nothing binding on the door inside the van." Scored one pretty big ding in its pretty flawless leather. /-: Times like that, I'm glad I payed five bucks, not two-hundred, five. AH> attended a high school production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS AH> in an economically deprived neighbourhood, that the flower AH> shop would have been more credible if it actually contained AH> some flowers. So I gave the drama department a few items AH> they could use as costumes & stage props. :-) NICE!!! JB> Now, a confession. I've only gathered most of the JB> material to update my house. AH> You have long term goals... I think that's very important. L!!! I guess I can't deny it. AH> While you may have bitten off more than you can chew, it may be AH> too soon to be sure. The people I worry about are the ones AH> who don't do the sort of self-analysis you've been doing, AH> don't learn from adversity, and/or just hang around waiting AH> to die. If you keep more cedar scraps than you can use AH> immediately, what I'm hearing is that you're planning to be AH> around for awhile. And I trust you will be.... :-) Despite the drudgery, I think I'll be in it for the log term. So, just after I skinned the briefcase, and the bus wasn't starting after close to a half hour on the jumper cables, I'm occupied with how I'm going to coax it out of the way for street cleaning scheduled for tomorrow, and in the back of my mind, working on the mid-term logistics to tiling my main floor bathroom which has the cement board sized and the loo disassembled, after I free up the compressor from installing a newer front seat in the van... I notice my favorite two neighbour kids with one of their moms. The younger might be two or three, and she starts, "Hi... I missed you." "I missed you too, Faith!" When out of nowhere... "I love you!" Speechless, I could only blow her a big kiss. So, yes, even when the birds are bitchin' about who nests where, and the cat's being a handful, I know the birds still sing nice tunes after the cafuffle, and the cat is really coming into being a huge love sponge. Now that Faith and her aunty are becoming delightful young ladies, I'd hate to miss that progress. ...
