subject: BC-200 XLT `AUDIO MODS`

MM> Recently someone sent me a message telling me how to make an "audio
MM>mod" to my BC-200 XLT. It's simply grounding the outside connector of
MM>the headphone plug to the outside connector of the antenna. It works
MM>great and makes the sound twice as loud when an external speaker is
MM>used.
MM> My questions are: does anyone know what and why it does this? And,
MM>more importantly, does it have the potential to harm the scanner?
My understanding is that this 'mod' simply bypasses a resistor
Uniden decided was necessary to attenuate the audio so the
General Public won't damage their hearing. I used the mod on my
'200 for 3 years with no ill effects (to the scanner...).
