CB> Hi, quite a number of our teachers asked for this plan to be

If I could make a suggestion....Do it yourselves. That is what I did
the year before we had the program officially. There was nothing in
school policy to prevent me doing so, so I just implemented it in my own
classroom.
I made an arrangement with other teachers who acted as my PRC room & I
provided them time-out space in return. I followed the program by
asking the students the questions (practice first on each other, it's
important,) then when they reached the point of "I see that you have
chosen to leave," I wrote them a pass to a PRC buddy's room. I had
my PRC buddy give them a plan form (basically all it has to be is a
list of the same questions the kid was asked before getting booted from
your room, with space to write what the kid will do when back in class.)
When I did this, I didn't let them back in class until they finished it
& the student & I had had time to conference (I usually went to their
homebase--I don't have one--& asked the teacher if I could have them for
a minute.) If the student wouldn't do the form, I called home. I used
to take a print out of the student's attendance & report card with me to
the conference to use as muscle--"Gee, Jos‚, don't you think there might
be a connection between your behavior & all these D's & F's? And a
smart kid like you. What are all these suspensions I see here?
Behavior related? Oh, well, I can see that you aren't treating me any
more specially than you are your other teachers."
At the time, I was the only one in my group using the questions, however
a couple of them started using my plan form. It wasn't as successful
without the followup, but they felt like it was working.
If you can demonstrate to your principal that you all are committed to
this & that it helps (use the completed plans to document your
discipline results,) you might get him off his duff. Do the work for
him by making the contacts. I realize it's probably not practical for
you to observe at a school using this, as it was for us, but you could
make inquiries with Ed's office to find out if any schools nearer to you
are using it (it's being used in several states now.)
Good luck. Start out the beginning of the year the way you mean to
continue.
