Hmm. I understand healing tends to be slow with type I
diabetes... and I guess that could make a person more vulnerable to
infection.

Wow, that's great news! In view of your previous difficulties with
conventional surgery I'm glad to hear that there was a reasonable alternative
in this case & that it seems to be working well for you.
