Good on you! Some people don't accept that you can bike just about anywhere
you care to go, including a lot of places motor vehicles will never make it.
I'm in BC now, but come from Toronto, where there is a large and growing
bike commuter base... which is actively supported by government which
ealizes
the need for doing so...
There are many valid uses for motor vehicles, and many for walking... the key
is accepting that what is needed is APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY. If you need a
car to do something, fine... if a bike is suitable use a bike, or rollerblade
or walk etc... there is no reason to lean to overkill... and the governments
are starting to come around (but they still listen to corporations, who by
he
way are also starting to think differently)...
To be honest, I walk quite often, due to the hassles of dragging a bike
long,
only to leave it chained to a post in the weather and ill behaved society...
but then I can walk most places in town in 20 minutes or so... I think
othin
of planning a trip to the nearby towns... for the weekend including one 130km
away... I'm having a bit of trouble with aclimatizing to the size of the
ills
here... but I get up and over them ok... just wish they would tighten up on
drivers tests for car and truck owners... Actually they have, but the old
timers really need retesting... some people simply can't control their cars
let alone see what they are doing... most disregard traffic laws, and there
is a lot of 'commuting' to and from bars day and night... of course to be
fair, most of the local people on bikes aren't much better, since they have
never figured out what they should do... kids get some on road training by
people who seldom ride, and older ones, into bmx and mtb racing mode apply
themselves to roads and sidewalks in some state of disregard... cops simply
don't take it seriously enough, forgetting that in a year or so these kids
will be driving the same way... Try asking the mountain crowd, how many ever
RIDE to the mountain... nope they all drive up and back... I've noticed that
some of the winners ride up to their training sessions though...
Ever wonder why some of the cars/pickups that crowd you off the road have
loaded bike racks as they whiz by?
Anyway keep up the push for Appropriate Transportation and user education...
