| subject: | Re: PB/DLL `Edit` v5.00 d |
Hello Bob,
b>Subject: Re: PB/DLL "Edit" v5.00 destroys all sources
As this does not only concern Thomas and Andras but actualy every PB/DLL
user, I hope you will accept a few of my thoughts.
bz>Thomas --
bz>Sometimes you amaze me. You apparently spend a very large portion of
bz>your life offering nothing but derogatory criticism of PowerBASIC, but
bz>you continue to buy PowerBASIC products (You do actually purchase them,
bz>don't you?). Regrettably, though, it seems you won't even lift your
bz>finger to do something constructive, instead. That is very sad.
You also amaze me - I hope you do not mean "amuse" - and I think also the
rest of the Usenet and Fido-World reading these mails.
bz>Thousands of our customers use PB/DLL without a problem.
bz>If you or your friend.....
I am not only surprised (as Andras Hoeffken says) about your comments.
No, I am extremly frustated.
We, here in Germany, don't play around with PB/DLL making "HELLO WORLD"
things. Maybe you are not completly informed about customers intentions.
I am, for my part, working extremly hard and concentrated on exporting
the old DOS stuff into the Windows-World. That means PB/DLL helps making
the more important software accessable on other platforms.
I, again for my part, cannot deny a certain amount of dependance, but as
we say here in Germany: "Andere Muetter haben auch schoene Toechter" or
"Other mothers have also very nice daughters".
bz>Then, if it really is a problem, we'll correct it. If it isn't, we'll
bz>tell you what you're doing wrong.
We indeed discussed the above discribed PB/DLL Edit reactions during the
last year "German PoewerBasic Meeting", which was organized through
Christian Wendler.
At that time Powerbasic Inc., I am asure, had been informend more than
once through PB/DLL users (or should I say losers).
'--------------------
JS>If I could add my 2 cents worth. The editor of PBDLL5.0 did indeed
estroy
JS>the source file if it was larger than some (undefined) size. I brought
this
JS>to the attention of your product support staff back when it was first
released
JS>and they confirmed it. I was sent an upgrade to fix the problem. Frankly
I
JS>have not tested it completely as I have since broken up my source code in
JS>smaller modules to avoid the problem.
JS>An easy check is to load a renamed copy of the winapi32.inc file into the
JS>editor and then resave it. It destroyed it every time.

AH>Hello Bob,
AH>this error had been reported to PB Inc in September 1997 by 2
AH>moderators of Fido areas here: Christian Wendler and Thomas Gohel
AH>with the comment, that this error is valid for big source files. -
AH>I arranged myself with this error by using modules below the 64 KB
AH>file length, maybe I should had written the following description
AH>earlier :-((((
AH>For testing, take the three files:
and so on
'-------------------------
Thank you Andras Hoeffken
AH>Concerning the PowerBASIC fans there is a bigger group of commercial
AH>users here, however, in the smaller group of hobby programmers you
AH>find some very good ones, too,
AH> *and Thomas Gohel certainly is one of that excellent programmers*
That also is my privat opinion. Without his never ending intensive
engagment the PB-World over here in Germany would look very, very fade.
AH>I think you and Dave Navarro should more rely on the positive
AH>motivation of Thomas even
You now have two future struggels:
get rid of the disput with Thomas Gohel and
get rid of the discribed bugs in PB/DLL
BZ> Bob Zale
BZ> PowerBASIC Inc.
AH>Andras Hoeffken
AH>------------------------------------------------------------------
AH>PS: (as Dave Navarro sometimes is in doubt if we have licenses)
AH>in Germany I licensed:
AH> PB Vs. 3.00c, Ser. No. PB 3000042769, incl. upgrade to vs 3.20
AH> PBDLL Vs. 1.5 Ser. No. 510127409
AH> PBDLL Vs. 2.0 Ser. No. 511400164
AH> PBDLL Vs. 5.0 Ser. No. 511900334
AH>for my 2nd computer I licensed directly in the US:
AH> PB Vs. 3.00c, Ser. No. 110146234, upgraded to PB 3.20 Ser. No.
0317516
AH>(upgrade done for me by my friend "David Burkhart" 09/15/95 directly at PB
AH>Inc)
This is what Bob Zale wrote: "You do actually purchase them, don't you?".
Thinking about it, I decided not to make any kind of comment on this.
What I will do is to inform Kirschbaum, our PB distributer.
Here are my registration numbers:
PB 2.10 PB10014787
PB 3.10 PB3100052603
PB 3.20 PB3200062058
PB/DK 1.50a 310112968
PB/DK 2.00 320102684
PB/DLL 1.00 510119731
PB/DLL 5.00 511900202
Back to the roots.
bz>today, we have not been able to reproduce any error such as you describe
bz>so vaguely. Consequently, unless you begin to cooperate, it is not
bz>possible to help you.

'------------------------
TG>Kirschbaum will die v3.50 wohl in den n„chsten Wochen auch verkaufen,
TG>allerdings nach meinem Informationen ohne Werbeaktion.
Do you think we need PB 3.50. After following Compuserve-mails I come to
the conclusion: PB 3.50 is buggy!
MQ>Und fr PB/DLL 5.0 ist bei Kirschbaum ein Update verfgbar.
This is piked up from the Basic.ger a few days ago.
MQ>Folgendes kann in der OS/2 Inside 3/98 Seite 21 nachgelesen werden.
MQ>BASIC LEBT! (schon erstaunlich fr eine OS/2 Zeitung)
MQ>Die kalifonische Basic-Schmiede Power-Basic kndigte auf der Comdex
MQ>einen neuen Multiplattform-Basic-Compiler fr DOS, Linux, OS/2 und Win32
MQ>an. Der "Power-Basic Console Compiler" (PB/CC) erzeugt Text-Mode-
MQ>Applikationen und hat als Alleinstellungsmerkmal die Untersttzung eines
MQ>32-Bit-Inline-Assemblers. Neben solchen Performance-steigernden Features
MQ>steht ein stark erweitertes Basic-Sprachumumfang. PB/CC kostet 129.- US-
MQ>Doller je Plattform.
MQ>Ende der Pressemitteilung.
Befor paying 129 U$ for a PB/CC, I would appreciate a stable PB/DLL 5.00!
Sincerely
Mike Quittenden
