The only jinx on the Orioles' pitching staff is Boom-Boom Boskie. It was
stupid to sign him, and it's even stupider to keep him on the team. He's a
wasted roster spot that could be used by a backup infielder/pinch runner.
Johnson and Gillick need to wake up and face reality on this.
I'm also waiting to see the Gold Glove caliber left side of the infield we're
supposed to have now that Cal is out of his proper position. Cal has eight
errors, most on routine plays, and Bordick has six (and several off-line
throws saved by Palmeiro and Hoiles. As good as this team is, they'd be even
better with Cal at short and a third baseman who can hit (Surhoff, since
Zeile was let go), rather than Cal at third and an offensive liablity (who
gives 100% all the time, but whose 100% simply isn't much) at short.
Whatever slight defensive improvement this current alignment provides (and I
don't think it provides any) is far from enough to offset the offensive
liability of Bordick. *adh*
