>> As example in the word colour vs the proper spelling. JD> Nah, that only means the yanks cant spell. That's underestimating the USAians, Joe! They know perfectly well how a word like 'colour' *should* be spelled. But they insist on doing it the US way, just as with gallons and a lot of other measurements. They are even hanging on to Fahrenheit, now that every other English speaking country has adopted the Celsius scale, decades ago. I guess it'll take more than a generation before all those backward USAians finally join the rest of the world on the metric system. The military and the scientists already did so, a long time ago, but the vast, uneducated, majority of the US people, just don't seem to be able to accept, that anything with French origin can become a world-wide standard. ---* Origin: news://felten.dyndns.org (2:203/2) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 203/2 0 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
