A far higher-functioning category of autism than is typically associated
with autism(the stereotypical example being the child rocking, lost in
his own world, and utterly unresponsive to external stimuli)
I had an adult friend who had Asperger's -- quite the yappity person
(more so, even, than me! *LOL*)
I also have an adult friend who is "autistic" (although certainly
higher-functioning than the above example)
Poor guy has suffered terribly all his life with the attacks of
"retard!" and accompanying ostracization :(
But he's actually very intelligent (university education, can
communicate well in 3-4 languages, and currently learning others!)
His worst enemy, IMO, is the self-belief(from so much peer reinforcement
for so long) that he's mentally abnormal ("low down",
"bad", etc.) :(
I wonder how many people's intellect has been sabotaged just because
they may have had a physical speaking quirk, of slowness of speech
(which can sometimes indicate that one deliberates(sign of HIGHER
intellect!) before/while speaking? :(
Take me, for instance, I've always tested well above genius in
standardized IQ/etc. tests! But in school (all standardized to a
sub-average, to train docile workers!) I was bored to tears, so I
'explored' on my own (via activity & words)
So I was ignored by most teachers (luckily I had 1 or 2 extra wonderful
teachers who took the one-on-one time with me to challenge me) and
ostracized by my peers because I was seen as a freak, so I felt forced
to stunt my abilities for the most part.
Over time it became the school habit to pick on me, so I got to where I
couldn't even excel at sports if I tried(I know now I could've kicked
butt in track type stuff, but if I beat anyone, there'd be hell to pay,
and when I lost, they'd make fun of me -- so I tended to just avoid gym
class (and lost grades for it, of course, so that killed my average,
which should've been all A's, even with playing dumb in the academics!)
I'm not the only one -- I know, because I've watched kids racing in
schoolyards, and I often see one who is obviously throttling his speed
down (he's usually a spindly type who might otherwise have track as his
one athletic outlet to shine!)
So how many adult "disabilities", "syndromes", etc. are 100%
preventable, through correcting dysunctional social
environments/societal biases?
(physical ones, too, in the way that fish that are raised in dark caves
are blind, even though their eyes have no pathology)
And how a puppy with a splinted leg at a critical developmental age,
often won't learn how to walk!
Read Dr. Gabor Mate's book "Scattered Minds"(about ADHD) to see how ADHD
is quite possibly/likely induced by parental/etc. influences.
I consulted with Dr. Mate for my own adult-ADHD and he pointed out
something interesting -- I was often described as "acting out" in school
and at home -- he pointed out that people "act out" things they
can't("aren't allowed") SAY (eg. Charades, pantomime)

JK> when this would hit) it's all just too much... too much to take in at
JK> once.. visually, aurally, etc.
This is a typical symptom of MS? How come?
Must be maddening! (how frightening to infants/toddlers? How
extra difficult/impossible was it for them to become aware of their
normal environment?
Is there a way to lessen that effect?
(perhaps MS might be diagnosed earlier, and this particular barrier to
learning about the world/etc. could be taken away, and MS might then not
be as bad a disability for the next generation?)
JK> They are sometimes obsessed with a certain routine (maybe because they
JK> know it, there are no surprises, and it's therefore safe).. there's a
Who isn't more comfortable with the known/comfortable routines?
The trick being to keep it from becoming obsessive to the point of
interfering with one's normal living. . .
My suspicion is that a certain amount of autism is encouraged by those
behind the big corporations/governments -- in that someone with just the
right amount of autism, would make a perfect employee(read:
slave, animated automaton)
JK> lot more to it than I've described above and hopefully the show you
JK> watched gave you some references where you can find out more about it.
JK> If not, just use google to find asperger's syndrome.
Asperger's has their own site, I remember, as I was on it for some of my
own research earlier this year. (Google did the trick!)
JK> Asperger's certainly can interfere with being able to function "in a
JK> way that lends to self support" in some cases.. Autism itself is
JK> incredibly hard to live with..
I think Asperger's, and so many other "disorders" these days are only
affecting one's ability to self support because of the way WE(society)
sees them, not because there's inherent crippling dysfunction in their
"disorder". . .
We could develop a far higher general-intelligence/capability level in
our population if there weren't those whose fortunes depend so much on
docile(unquestioning) labour!
Like how they give 9-year-olds calculators to do basic arithmetic before
they even LEARN arithmetic! :P
(because a certain class wishes to have hacks to do their
number-crunching but to have no comprehension of what they're working
with, because people with too much knowledge want more recompense and/or
can blow the whistle on highly profitable improprieties!
This is topical because I see a correllation between these aims, and a
subtle discouragement of ability (ie. an encouragement of DISability)
In the old days they could kidnap illiterate(to the employer's language)
non-civilized folk(eg. African blacks, South American Indians, etc.) to
train for the basic stuff (farm labour, house cleaning, etc.) and not
fear that their secrets would be transmitted to competitors/etc.
Plus, it maintains "class" distinctions (workers & elite lords) which
thise types prefer to truly free society. (& don't think that we've come
so far from the way it was -- how far have we come when there are those
who would do what's possible to CREATE disabilities & the tortured lives
that sometimes go with such?)
Ok, rant over.
Because I care,
