My medical dictionary doesn't have phenDImetrazine, but under
phenmetrazine it says:
n. a drug that reduces the appetite and was formerly used in the
treatment of obesity. It is administered by mouth and its actions and
side effects are similar to those of amphetamine. Prolonged use and large
doses may cause mental depression and dependence. Trade name: Preludin.
It sounds very similar to phentermine, expect that the similarity to
amphetamine, and the side effects of depression and dependence appear to
be stronger. At least that's what *I* get from the description. Here's
the same dictionary's description of phentermine:
n. a sympathomimetic (acts upon the nervous system) drug that suppresses
the appetite and is used in the treatment of obesity. It is administered
by mouth; side effects include dry mouth, nausea, and restlessness, and
continuted use produces tolerance. Trade name: Ionamin.
I'm home today and CNN is all full of Phen/Fen... stories of 2 women who
have died from heart conditions... the wife of a Florida politician was
one of them & her doctor said "may have contributed" to her fatal heart
attack. The only picture they showed of her looked very thin. Does anyone
know more about this case? They really aren't giving any data other than
the stories of these two women, yet their medical expert guy says HE
thinks everyone, even those being monitored by their regular physician,
should be taken off until more is known and guidelines can be established.
You know it's really starting to tick me off. Now even CNN is giving no
data. And WHO decides when they know enough? It's just so silly-- if it
WEREN'T a dangerous substance that needed to be controlled, it would be
an OTC drug or a FOOD product. Of course it's dangerous! Of course
guidelines are needed! What the HELL are prescriptions for anyway?????
If people started abusing insulin because it made them lose weight, would
they ban insulin????? FUCK. My obesity is a life-threatening condition
that is GREATLY helped by these medications. I'm so sick of people who
have 20 lbs to lose RELATING their problem to mine & expecting me to have
empathy for their needs.
My need is medical. Their need is cosmetic. Vanity, pure & simple.
Fuck off, Jet. If I have to strip you of your right to look like Kate
Moss in order to protect my right of access to the drugs I need to
survive, you better fucking believe I'll do it. And DAMN
IT you would too in my situation. And you'd do it louder than anyone else.
Every time a person who is not morbidly obese takes these drugs they
threaten my right to access. Why is that okay, but it's not okay for me
to say the drugs should be restricted? Why are your rights more important
than mine?
