EH>Thanks Fran. He's going great guns now. Turns out his owner
hadbeen feeding him a chicken-feed that looked like oatmeal sort of.
I disguised his maize and he kicked it around for ra while, then
started gobbling it up.
It was probably layena crumbles. There is also a wild game bird crumble.
Both are a better diet than just sorgum or corn. A 20# bag is only
about $7.00.
EH>I'll see if he likes wild-bird seed. We keep a supply of that too since
EH>Dee loves to feed the wild finches. Our bird bath has been a RIOT this
EH>last month... I've NEVER seen so many Grackles before. We had a forty
EH>acre sorghum field behind our house and since they harvested it the
EH>birds have been getting more numerous by the day.
They were probably hungry. There hasn't been as much food available this
year due to the drought.
EH>I envy you the ability to take care of that many! I'm still
agonizing over getting this one a companion. He's in therre now
cooing, seeing how long he can make his neck! When he sits on his
west perch he can see himself in the medicine cabinet mirror if he
stretches his neck. He'll coo a while, then crane to see if his
mirror friend is paying attention. He sure is pretty! Gettin tamer
too.
It shouldn't be too hard to find a female and they only cost about $6.
The ones that I saw today were that price. They are soothing birds to be
around.
Enjoy your dove.
