Holly Beach (The most popular), Rutherford Beach (just east of Holly
Beach I believe). Though I haven't been down there in a long time. Too
depressing. Not worth it, and a bit risky the last time I was out there....
The law enforcement out there is determined to make a name for himself by
writing up anyone for anything, regardless of how much he has to break the
law to get you to break the law. Ever see Porky's the movie.... Kinda like
that Sherif that's Porky's brother.... As far as the beach, most of the
residents sold their property and gave up after Rita. A few low-lifes
bought up the property cheap and awaited government hand-outs, while they
lived in camper trailors and tents, hoping to have another Hurricane. they
did and complianed when the government didn't pay them enough money. In
fact, the Government stiffened the demands for what must be done to build
out there, so they couldn't continue to get money from them over and
over.... Don't get me wrong. The original people living there for Rita (for
the most part) deserved help from the government. Though, most people out
there now are only trying to get what they can from the government. Even
over here (about 1hr away), in Calcasieu Parish, They are just now starting
to condemn houses "damaged from Rita", who received money from
FEMA to fully
repair their houses. Those owners have no money to repair their roof, yet
they do have big screen TV's and large four wheel drive trucks, large boats,
etc. FEMA gave them money to repair their house. If their priorities where
not in order, I have no problem seeing them loose their home! They should
have used the money to fix their house or re-locate. For the record, most
of the houses around here that was damaged from Rita was honestly damaged
before Rita. The houses that had good roofs before Rita wasn't damaged.
There was a few houses that had a tree go through the roof. (The house I
live in had a tree go through the roof).
