| subject: | When is it a disorder when it is just `different` |
-> I have huge question to ask all of you kind thoughtful intelligent -> people... -> Dr. Donahue (an Orlando FL doctor/columnist) answered a question wrt a -> "Disorder" called Aspager's Disorder...... "DISORDER"??? OR -> DIFFERENCE? -> The patient avoids eye contact, has trouble making friends, has -> difficulty with fine motor skills, is not interested in sports... has -> select interests.... but can lead a productive and happy life. -> I get the IMPRESSION the 'disorder' is called a disorder based on -> social skills. That if you're not a party animal, or you don't like -> sports you're uh suffering a DISORDER rather than simply being -> different from the status quo? -> Once upon a time being left handed was considered a 'disorder'... and -> being 'gay' likewise. I'm left handed and dyslexic. Dyslexia is tied to poor development of socail skills and I can't debate that. -> What do you think? Is medical science defining conditions based on -> status quo? -> I always thought conditions were 'disorders' if they interfere with -> being able to function in a way that lends to self support...'' -> Give me your thoughts. Thank you. I think genetics plays a larger role than credited with and that our evolution as a species lags far behind our social development. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
