Hi Sean,
I finally got the correspondance you sent me at the end of 2004 so,
welcome back to the world of ~TelNet~ BBSing! 8-) As you may know, i'm
not ready to quit promoting `Kermit' (for file transfers) just yet so it
was a genuine source of pleasure to learn about such good news 1st hand.
;^)
I appreciated to be given another opportunity to evaluate OutPost's
potential for a cps rate improvement since you tried `Kermit' some eight
months ago. 8-) It's quite pleasant to find that your late move should
translate to a 400 to 600 % raise in speed!!! How do i know? Well, the
`SpiffyTelNet' door allowed me to use the `ZMoDem'/`Kermit' support from
other systems; my notes are messy but i think `HyperTerminal' transfers
at 10 - 16 Kcps using `ZMoDem', `Kermit' is about the same (10 - 14) and
even with Wayne Warthen's FreeWare - which Rob Swindell's `Kermit' setup
for SynchroNet just rejects miserably... I know we're not there yet but
that's the kind of preliminary figures i have for both protocols and i'm
forced to mention that my present INet feed is limited to 128 Kbps only;
i can't but dream of the day when `ZMoDem' and `Kermit' can be evaluated
side by side on a `TeleGard/2' system... ;-) Well, talking of sides, i
guess the bottleneck wouldn't be on yours anyway so i have to wonder!...
8-)
I DownLoaded `TeleGard/2' in hope i'd be able to test it in a local
~TelNet~ setup, eventually, but i can't even get it to install. Once it
runs i'll be able to figure out a `Kermit' setup - perhaps later... %-)
In any case, it's a relief to have good news and hope in times when
newbies are so short of patience while the hobby dies slowly... Thanks!
Salutations, 8-)
