Did you ever actually create an object for Child to point to? All I
see are pointers--and they are not initialized to any valid object.
Child points nowhere valid, you set Target to point there too, then
you attempt to put data in an unauthorized spot.
Try something like:
TChild Child;
Target = (TCanvas *) &Child;
