Well folks,
Our local UPN station (WTOG, channel 44, Tampa, FL) broadcast a
Trek-a-thon today. We got 10 straight hours of Trek. More than what my
parents could handle. :)
The first six hours were six episodes from the Original Series. In order
of broadcast, they were:
	"Day of the Dove"
	"Amok Time"
	"The Enterprise Incident"
"City on the Edge of Forever"
	"Mirror, Mirror"
	"A Piece of the Action"
This was followed by a TNG episode, "Relics." The DS9 episode, "The
Darkness and the Light," filled the eighth hour, while the ninth and tenth
hours were completed with the showing of the third movie, "The Search for
Spock."
It's been a long, long time since I've seen the old shows. They certainly
haven't lost anything with the passage of time. Although, my mother and I
did notice that Shatner not only talked with a staccato pattern, but
walked and fought the same way. In one case, we noticed that Nimoy even
started picking up on Shatner's staccato delivery during some of his
lines. :)
Having seen the old generation and the new generation within hours of each
other lends to comparisons. In my opinion, while the special effects in
TNG and DS9 are indeed believable and fun to watch, I would much rather
have the stories without all of the techno-babble. They seem to have more
"meat" to them.
I just thought I'd mention this day, because it was one of those rare
occasions that come along once in a great while. Usually, days like this
are created by those who have videos of these shows; not by a broadcast
station. I have to give my hat off to our local UPN affiliate for taking
an entire afternoon and evening to show nothing but Trek.
I'm still trying to figure out if there is any significance to the
particular episodes they chose to show. Is there some theme that is
discernible that I have yet to see? I don't know. I only know that I
enjoyed it.
If any of you were to play program director for this station today, how
would you have filled up the ten hours?
Steve
