Why can't the people that have the current code for OPUS just release an
*intermediate* version of OPUS.EXE to fix some obvious problems? For
example, releasing a version of OPUS.EXE (1.73b?) where Opus would simply
**recognize** 28.8 and 33.6 callers, and calculate download times correctly,
accordingly, would be a VAST improvement! Such a small change wouldn't take
hardly *any* time at ALL to code, but would be of enormous benefit to
everyone! Indeed, it probably wouldn't take any coding at all, just
slightly modifying existing code!
Right now, I have my USR Sportster set to "tell" Opus that every 9000+ caller
is at 9600 baud - but even *that* doesn't fix all the problems! Just last
night I had a caller who was at 33.6 and wanted to download a 3 meg file.
Opus calculated the d/l would take, at 9600, about 45 minutes, but in
actuallity, that download would only *really* have taken only about 18
minutes or so. Because Opus "over-estimated" the required time to d/l the
file, the caller kept getting "You don't have enough time" messages, and
before he logged off, he left me a SCATHING message! His time remaining was
like, 30 minutes - the download would NOT have taken nearly that long, and
yet he couldn't download the file! (because of the inadequacy in OPUS.)
This is *very* frustrating.
Perhaps it's time the development team release small upgrades instead of
holding out for the "big grand new version"!! Gawd, it's been SIX FRIGGIN
YEARS since the last version. Minor upgrades would at least help!
Signed - a person *JUST ABOUT* to jump to Maximus!
