I/O is difficult in Java -- Java is designed more for real-time, online
applications than parsing messages. I'm not criticizing the idea, however.
On the contrary, I would support any effort to create Java apps for Fido
and would assist where I could.

There is a compiler called Free Pascal or FPC which will compile Delphi
code towards a variety of platforms (not just Windows). I can't remember
the link right now, but I will make it available on my FTP site soon and
will link to it from my web sites.

The point should not be to prefer one platform or language over another,
but rather to support broad varieties of platforms.
