you are incorrect with the above statement... most modems do either format... 
rockwell does either, USR does either and i'm sure that ZyXEL does either but 
i can't find that setting at the moment :-(

i was sure it did. i know that X5 X6 and X7 give more detail in the single 
line connect message... i run X7...

i never said i didn't own a ZyXEL... in fact, if you look at my entry in the 
nodelist, you'll see that i do run ZyXEL. i have a U-1496E.
