| subject: | Re: Thought Police in Britain |
On 04/24/09, Jeff Snyder quoted Steve Asher: Thought Police in Britain. SA> It is (or was) an advertising campaign, and a number of US cities have "Why SA> Islam?" adverts promoting islam as a "religion of peace". It puts the bus SA> company in a quandary - do they censor such things, or allow them as free SA> speech, and in the case of the British buses there were objections from SA> some drivers over being assigned to drive buses which contradicted their SA> faith. While most Muslims may not act upon the violent tenets of their faith, and probably do live peaceful lives, just like the rest of us, the fact remains that the Qur'an does in fact promote the belief that under certain conditions, Muslims are obligated to kill for their faith; they are supposed to kill "infidels". Sadly, as we all know, there are extremists in every group, and in every religion, who take everything very literally. The truth is, again, as we all should know by now, all of the major religions, and some of the others as well, have supposedly killed in the name of their god at some time. They are all guilty of some degree of hypocrisy when it comes to the "peace" department. I certainly wouldn't want to be in charge of one of those bus companies, and I most certainly would refuse to drive one of those buses which proclaims that God does not exist, if I were a Christian bus driver. I would fight it tooth and nail. Are you aware of any cases where a Christian bus driver has gone to court over this issue? If so, how did they fare? SA> Britain is accommodating its muslim minority, while repressing its SA> (professing) Christian majority - banning "Saint George" parades, renaming SA> Christmas as Winterval, serving halal food to all children in some schools, SA> not having "piggy banks" in bank branches because it "offends" the SA> minority, and so on. I find the level of political correctness which has overtaken the world in recent years absolutely appalling. So in Britain it is now Winterval, and in the USA it is "Happy Holidays". Truly sad...not that Jesus was born anywhere near that time of the year, but still. It seems to me that all of this compromise is slowly leading to a unified world government, and a unified world religion, but it certainly won't represent the things that I believe in.
