BH>We raise a lot of parrots and conures and we don't give them grit
BH>either. I can't think when was the last time I gave my pet quakers grit,
BH>in the last eight years or so, but one broke a wing last year and when
BH>he was x-rayed you could still see some grit that he had eaten some time
BH>in his life, and I raised him from day one. So it really doesn't go
BH>away...
It can stay in there forever. I haven't offered grit in over 6 years,
and nobody here has had any problems with digesting ANYTHING I offer
them. I do give them calcium powder on their soft food for a supplement
just before and during nesting, but that doesn't stay in the
proventriculus like grit does. Last time I used grit was when I still
finches, and I tossed the grit when I lost the last finch.
