There should also be software to send the text to the Braille
"reader" rather then to voice synthesizer.

Look for something called: NFBTRANS
Description: Ablefile Public Domain Braille Translation Software

Also: Hot Dots and Turbo Braille

My ex-boss is "legally" blind (extreme tunnel vision) and uses
the voice synthesizer to read most of the on-screen text of
web pages.

I've never seen him use Braille though, only a strong magnifying
glass.
