BL> Yair... Windows 95 is going to come in with the same BL> disadvantage that OS/2 faced... a mature system as competition. JG> A lot of computer literate Windows 3.1 users will almost JG> automatically upgrade I think. That takes care of 1% of the users. What about the other 99%? I assume that Win95 will have problems. Remember DOS6? It was just a minor change on DOS5, and there are people who still won't use it. If M$ can get into marketing problems with DOS, then ho much more scope is there in a whole new operating system? JG> It broke me up when MS said that Winever was not going to be JG> released until September now. I can't see anything wrong in their conservative approach. M$ are coming off he greatest success in the history of the world: DOS and Windows, and Win95 could explode in their face. IBM stuffed OS/2 comprehensively, but they were coming off ground level with nothing to lose. It's different for Microsoft. JG> A year or two? You're optimistic. I reckon they'll have a JG> number of small fixes out real quick and then the real bugfix JG> will cost money a fair bit later. The above sentence is exactly JG> what I'm expecting from IBM too! :-( Yair... I'm still shitty over OS2/Windows. They flogged it for $59 knowing full well that it was a heap of shit, and then bug-fix it with Warp 9 months later, and have the cheek to ask $159! No thanks. I'll just wait till they get it right, and I'll buy it for a song at the peak of the Win95 promo when IBM are desperate. For mine, M$ and IBM are peas in a pod... heaps of shit screwing us. JG> Actually, only the 'red box' version of Warp is the upgrade for JG> the version you bought. Oh... that makes *all* the difference. $159 for a bug-fix on something that cost $59 originally. Doesn't that tell you something? I don't like being screwed with a "come in sucker." If IBM ever get anything out of me, it will be bare-bones. At least MS has never screwed me. They fixed their DOS6 shambles free, and let me upgrade to Win311 also free. IBM are a heap of shit.
