Since you've gotten far enough in life to have a wife and a mother-in-law,
there's no need to be scared. Most of the focus in support groups (CHADD,
for example) is on children; but if you check the Hartford Courant on the
right day of the week you'll see a full page of "Need Help?" stuff and there
should be something in there.
Many of the parents who show up at CHADD meetings also have ADHD, so they
might have other sources and they might be worth talking to. I know one
chapter meets in New Britain at NBGH; there might be one in West Hartford as
well, I don't know.
I personally found the group in New Britain to be irritating, because the
women who ran it couldn't stop talking long enough to let the rest of the
group or the guest speaker get a word in edgewise. Sound familiar? ;<)
In your case, you might have overcome many of the problems and even the overt
symptoms; if not, the same medications used in children work in adults. Your
biggest problem in that regard, I think, is that while ADHD is a physical
condition the resulting behavioral habits are not easily overcome.
