Your default font size is probably 10. Whenever you press , the lines
you create will have the 10 point size. When you change to 12, any spaces to
the right and any blank 's under the current line would still be using
the 10 point size.
So if you use the mouse or arrow keys to move down the page (or sometimes,
even just one space to the right), you're going back to a region that uses
the 10 point size.
If you like using 12 point size, change that to the default by clicking on
the "default" button in the Font dialog box from the Format menu.
Otherwise, select (i.e. "block") any spaces and 's to the right and
below the current cursor position and change them to 12 even though nothing's
written on them (or better yet, delete them, to eliminate waste).
