RB> Hey you lot out there.Ive just found this message base and after

RB> Rail Fans" out there. It is impossible to even contemplate linking
RB> (Yecch)diesels or electrics with true rail power, nothing beats the
RB> sheer power
RB> of a" STEAM LOCO" as it pulls anything upto aproox 100Tonnes of
RB> freight.I hope
RB> this makes you realise you can`t beat "Steam Power". Regds Ray B, Ex

Liking or dis-liking Steam Power does not make or break one as a REAL
ailfan.
I don't subscribe to the theory that only Steam power is serious...if it
ere,
it'd still be used mainstream. There are many reasons that diesels replaced
Steam Locomotives, and yes both have their advantages/disadvantages.
Steam Locos will never have the tractive effort of diesels, but there again,
diesels don't have the sheer raw pulling power of steamers...
It's apples and oranges...there is no comparison. Some people don't like
the taste of one or the other. It's all opinions...you have expressed yours,
and I have expressed mine.
I am no less of a railfan because I was born in 1964, exposed almost
exclusively to diesels and have therefore developed a keen fondness for that
type of locomotive. I also appreciate the steam era locos, but my heart
always leans to the diesels. Especially 1st and 2nd generation EMD, GE and
ALCO.
... A Macintosh is an Etch-a-Sketch that you don't have to shake...
