The Orioles started the game with a Polonia single. He was caught stealing.
Following a hit and an out, Palmeiro finally caught up with a pitch, and hit
it out for his 200th career homer. 2-0, O's. Cal followed with a double,
but was stranded.
Erickson started the bottom of the first by walking the first two Brewer
batters. Even so, Erickson was one out away from getting out of the inning,
when he gave up a double that Devo couldn't quite reach. Two runs scored,
and the hitter was caught between second and third. In the ensuing rundown,
Surhoff threw the ball into right field. Cal hustled after it, and, from his
knees, threw a strike to Hoiles at the plate to nail the runner. 2-2.
The first two Orioles walked in the second, and Johnson foolishly decided to
give the struggling pitcher an out by having Billy sacrifice (way too early
in the game for such a move.) The bunt resulted in a force at third.
Polonia then lined a 3-1 pitch to third for a DP.
Erickson walked the leadoff Brewer in the second. He also wound up scoring.
Three walks = three runs. The numerous walks in this series can't be blamed
on the umpires - the pitchers have been missing even the rulebook strike zone
by a mile. The inning ended with Hammonds throwing out a runner at the
ate.
With one out in the third, Alomar walked. Palmeiro hit his second homer of
the game for a 4-3 lead. Looks like he's finally awakened from his
season-long funk (we hope.)
