Yeah, it is getting really hot here.  Been consistently over 100
degrees for a few weeks now.  Air conditioning must be nice!  I am a
volunteer dispatcher with Desert Hills Volunteer Fire Department which
is just outside the city limits of Lake Havasu City, and we don't have
air in our engines, just in the rescue vehicle.
Are you a paramedic?  I am a disabled Respiratory Therapist.  I was on a
trauma team in a hospital in California for quite a few years before I
did a bad no no to my back (2 surgeries later and no relief!)  I moved
over here to Havasu to be near family and just sort of fell into the
position of Volunteer Dispatcher here in Desert Hills.  I have been
trying to learn most of what the guys here do.  I even tried on a
complete set of gear - SCBA and all.  Now I know why I'm not a
firefighter!!!!   HEAVY!  I went through the EMT program basically for
the information.  Most of our calls are medical too.  We don't have the
gang problems here (thankfully), but we do have those goofy weekend
boaters!  Our department also covers part of Interstate 40.  We have
about 120 square miles we cover here.  We are the first responders to
the airport here in Havasu because we are closer than the city units.
Well, it promises to be another hot one and I had best get the old
cooler going!!
