RT> Tom, I think you live in one mighty fine city and if I could come up
RT> with a good enough reason to live in Oklahoma (), yours would be on
RT> top of my list for places to move to... seriously. But, I also think
RT> yours is the waaaaaay far exception. In the real world now, you
RT> defend yourself from ANYTHING, especially something like your wife's
RT> honor, you end up convicted of all sorts of felonies, THEN the scumbag
RT> that made a pass at your wife sues you, gets your home, your car, your
RT> job, AND in the end, your wife divorces you because of the stress
RT> brought on by the whole ordeal. Documented cases abound.
What I'm talking about in Oklahoma would be a misdemeanor. It would only be a
felony here with weapons or aggravated circumstances. Aggravated assault is a
felony here if: 1) weapon involved; 2) an elderly person or a child is
assaulted by a normal adult; 3) a seriously ill person is assaulted by a
normal person; 4) a very large person assaults a much smaller person; 5) a
person with limited mental capacity is assaulted by a normal person (i.e.
downs syndrome); 6) AND, a serious injury results. I understand the points
you made, and they might be true in some places with the right circumstances.
I wasn't talking about trying to beat the guy to death, as a first thought.
He could file suit against me, but he wouldn't get anything except payments.
Oklahoma is a nice place to live. Every place has pros and cons, but I'll
take Oklahoma compared to the places I've visited. The people here are
friendly, and they haven't learned how to abuse the civil court system yet.
