-> In any case, I'm going to be up to my ears in birds by the end of
-> August! It looks like I'll end up with a brooder in my bedroom...
Hey! Good show! Glad to hear that! I too am no longer birdless! No,
not an Amazon, but at least a bird.....
We were taking the dogs for a ride this morning and found a tall board
fence with a hand painted sign saying "Great Dane Puppies for sale."
'Course we HAD to stop and look....
Kathy, I was met at the gate by one of the sadest sights I've ever
seen. There, with all the grace and majesty of my big old stud, stood
the most pitiful merled Dane I ever saw. The Sir Anilar bloodlines were
unmistakable, but somewhere in there a terrible genetic mistake had been
made. Behind him stood two "Harelquin" and I use that word loosely,
bitches both heavy with milk. To make a long story shorter if not
happier, somewhere one of my Danes had been bred disasterously, and they
were now selling pups from him.... We didn't even look at the pups
though their "stud" had the same conformation and temperament as my
beloved old "Big Dog." (He fell in love with my wife and almost
wouldn't let us leave, all the while the lady was wringing her hands and
insisting, "He's always very ferocious around strangers....")
But.... They had a big outdoor parrot cage FULL of white ringneck
doves, and the lady said "No", she didn't sell them, but would I like
one as a gift!? Lord WOULD I?! She caught one of the young ones, not a
pure white, but the faintly beige ones? Put him in my hands and said,
"If he's lonely come back by and get another one. I KNOW you'll take
very good care of him because my dog loves you so much."
He's sitting up tall and proud in the old Kooky-roo's cage, apparently
enjoying the peace and quiet and peeping at himself in the mirror. (He
hated the draft from the Air Conditioner in the old cage position so I
put him in the bathroom until it cools off enough for him to move back
into my bedroom.)
He hasn't had a chance to be lonely YET, because all our critters have
paraded past checking him out! (Honeybun thinks he might be breakfast,
but Poss is SURE he's her old friend Kookyroo and can't understand why
he won't coo to her.) The Phantom cat KNOWS he's breakfast but can't
get to him where he is, and knows better than to get cornered in my
bathroom! (We often call this cat "Paranoia!")
Anyway, Kookyrootwo is getting adjusted to our menagerie and it to him.
(I just coo'ed at him and he looked all over for the other dove, but of
course I don't LOOK right! )
So, I still only have one Dane and a mongrel but I'm no longer birdless.
Maybe the next place I stop to look at Danes will have a surplus of
Lilac Crowns!
BTW, congratulations on Snow.....
