subject: Best Antiviral Program

PW> LK> It always pays to read the fine print disclaimer, assuming the

PW> It probably does, but I've not bought any of them in a box
 PW> - most you don't
PW> need to, and due to a site license I can get Dr Solomon's
 PW> (disks only) for 3
 PW> pounds, so...
You can't complain about the price. :-) Over here the Dr. Solomon cut down
cheapie is AUD99, but the full AVTK is still AUD299.
There's an anti-virus price war raging in Australia at the moment. Everybody
is cutting prices or releasing cut down versions priced to attract the lower
end of the market, and even big sellers like Norton and McAfee are in there.
Funnily enough, the cheapest by a long way "full commercial version" AV in
Australia since the price war started is AVP, which is rated #1 in the world
by me and nearly everybody else in the world who doesn't work for another AV
company, at only AUD55.
PW> The ones I listed have always been fairly reliable,
 PW> whatever I've thrown at
PW> them - whether it's a virus they know of, or one that they

PW> before. That's why I listed them. Of the lot, I'd have
 PW> to say that in
PW> this regard I find TBAV's heuristics the best, since
 PW> they're very fast but
PW> also very good. AVP probably is good, but at least IMO it's
 PW> far too slow.
Obviously you haven't looked at AVP for a while. AVP V3 is several orders of
magnitude faster than V2. It's faster even than TBAV on my MV collection,
but not as fast overall. NOTHING is as fast as TBAV overall.
PW> LK> Have a look at an Invircible ad if you want to see some REAL snake
PW> LK> oil. Zvi Netiv INVENTED snake oil!
 PW> Tell me about it - that's why I keep invircible 2.something
 PW> here, because I
PW> amuse myself by pointing out that his claims are wrong, in
 PW> alt.comp.virus.
PW> Strangely enough, I never get a reply, and he usually goes
 PW> away again for a
PW> month or so. (Not due to me, I'd imagine!)
He always does that when he's at the losing end of an argument and starting
to look like an idiot and a liar.
I don't know if this rumour is true, but I heard Zvi sacked his UK and US
distributors for stealing the profits. Zvi's attitude gives me a pain in the
arse, and I don't think much of his program, but I don't wish him any harm.
If it's true, I hope he recovers his money.
 PW> PW>> I haven't used AVP much.
 PW> LK> You should! :-)
PW> As I said, I find it far too slow.
Try V3. Rod has the makings of a new WWW site online. I'm not an avid WWWer
so I don't know how it rates by world standards with graphics and all, but it
looks pretty suave to me. I don't think he'll mind you downloading it from
the UK. (http://www.antivirus.com.au)
 PW> That's why I like TBAV,
 PW> since it gets a
PW> scan throughput of several megs per second, reliably, and
 PW> doesn't miss many
 PW> viruses.
Stay with it! I still use TBAV too, and it flags a couple of viruses with
heuristics that AVP misses, which can be important in my work. I've used and
recommended it for years, and it's still up near the top of my AV list, but
the proof of the pudding is in the eating for the average guy who can afford
to buy only one AV program, and right now AVP is eating more viruses than
anything else in the world, including TBAV.
