A book is certainly necessary, but not having seen the Power C book, I
can't comment. The compiler costs #24.95 here.
Learning C depends where you are coming from, Kurt. "Strong typing" took
a bit of getting used to after BCPL and eight-bit assembler. C may well be
intuitive and natural for most of us, but a little under twenty years ago K&R
was invaluable. I wish I could say the same about Stroustrup's book. "Das
Kapital" is light reading by comparison.
There are several tutorials on the "Black Box" CD ROM, and this is
permanently available for download from my BBS. I have absolutely no
doubt that similar facilities are available locally to anybody who wants
to learn C, and can use FidoNet(tm).
The ANSI standard is too big and too complicated to give to
beginners. IMO it would put them right off.
Best wishes,
Bill.
